      Jack C BOITANO was a stone mason. He died while building the wall and arch at Sunset View Cemetery. The wall he was building fell on him. The cemetery gave him a burial plot. It is a double plot but Jack's widow Rose never was interred beside him.

      1910 census Seventh Township, Contra Costa, California - Ernest & wife Ordelia are in the 1910 Census with Ernest's brother, John C. BOITANO, head, age 36, & wife "Rosie", wife, age 21, in Contra Costa County, CA Roll 75 Book 1, page 169. John C & Rosie have been married one month; John C is a stone mason. E BOITANO, brother, age 26, Ordelia, sister-in-law, age 16. E & Ordelia have been married six months. E is a laborer in the cemetery. Year of immigration: John C - none stated, Rosie 1890, Ernest 1903, Ordelia 1905. The record indicates that all four have Italian parents, are able to speak English and can read/write.

      1911 Obituary - BOITANO-In Berkeley. August 1. John C., dearly beloved husband of Rose Boitano and brother of Fred and Ernest Boitano, Mrs Louis Boitano and Mrs Earnest Pianitida (sic), a native of Italy aged 37 years 5 months and 5 days (John and Rose were only married for about 1 year)

      Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services to-morrow (Friday), at 9:30 oclock a. m. from St. Andrew's Church, West Berkeley, where mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul. Interment. Sunset View Cemetery. Remains at the chapel of Jameson & Niehaus, 2434 Telegraph avenue. (The Jameson & Niehaus funeral home mentioned in the obituary no longer exists.)

      Jack BOITANO lived life with gusto. He taught ballroom dancing in El Cerrito and maybe in Sacramento, CA. He was also a stone mason. No children. He died while working on the stone wall and arch of a cemetery in El Cerrito, CA (source: Geri BOITANO De Rose).
